Today's the day! Spain plays Netherlands today in the finals of World Cup Soccer. Spain has never made the finals before so this is a historic occasion just to participate. David Villa has been playing amazingly throughout the whole World Cup as well as Xavi, Puyol, Iniesta, Casillas...just to name a few. All of Spain will errupt today if they win!
We've decided to prepare a PICA PICA World Cup gathering at our home today, full of delicious spanish tapas and cava (just in case :)) SUERTE ESPAÑA!!

EUROPEAN PASTRIES AT THE HAND OF A SPANISH PASTRY CHEF

Wow! Took a short 30 minute trip to Marlborough MA today to check out MADRID BAKERY..and it was well worth the trip. I felt like I was walking into a pastelería (pastry shop) in the grand capital of Spain, MADRID. We were thrilled to see the croissants, pastas de te, tarta santiago, palmeritas, and many other tempting delights. We stocked up for a special treat for Father's day! The sole pastry chef and owner Sergio creates delicious pastries that are truly authentic. Not only do these pastries look unique and appetizing they ARE DELICIOUS!! A Spanish Spring in New England

Although winters in New England can be treacherously cold, icy and windy there is a certain romanticism that accompanies them. However, when spring rounds the corner and is finally here, it too is welcomed with open arms. Having spent 16 + years living in Spain and now being back here in N.E., things are almost new to me each time a season comes to an end and another begins. I do, undoubtedly, miss Spain and the air it brings each year after year sweeping across the peninsula. In my own home I will bring elements of Spain into it so as to mitigate the nostalgia that creeps up from time to time. How do I do this? Simply. I will make sure I spend most of my days and evenings outside in the fresh air. Spaniards pride themselves on walking the streets, parks and promenades of each city and town. They stop off to have a café or vinito at a street side terrace or maybe to a friends home and may only intend on spending a few moments, yet end up staying hours. The time flies by like when reading an intriguing novel or watching an enticing film. I don't see this as laziness nor as something negative rather a true appreciation of time, conversation and life itself. I'll have my café con leche in my garden each morning rather than stay cooped up inside. Plenty of easy meals will be prepared too to bring "Spain" home each day and evening. From green salads with a good olive oil and vinegar to tortilla de patata, roasted vegetables or grilled fish. Colors of the mediterranean will fill the yard and home giving it a fresh feeling of a new beginning and the air of Spanish terrace without having to leave the country. Flying to Spain is just the best! However, on a day to day basis, a little dosis of Spanish life does the soul good right here in New England.
